I've been blogging over at Our Sleeping Flowers these days. Still me, and still delicious, come join me!

Here's the dessert I planned for our fourth of july celebration. Of course since our day was full of spontaneous and fun plans as well as 10+ pounds of watermelon for the two of us, I didn't get around to making it. So a small bag of crispy peaches were sitting in the refrigerator for a few days until I pulled 'em out yesterday.

Disclaimer: I'm not giving you the recipe for the peach tart, just yet. It's my zupas post for the week so come back this friday. I am, however, giving you something just as delicious and something I hope you already have of your own; a homemade vanilla ice cream recipe.

The ice cream maker we received from hub's brother & wife at our wedding four years ago has been our most used, abused and loved gift. I don't even have to ask hub what kind of ice cream he wants, it's always vanilla. Of course sometimes we use vanilla bean, when we have it. And occasionally we spruce it up by adding fresh strawberries. And I know exactly what to add to hub's, a tablespoon or so of fresh milk; he loves the icy bits. Vanilla is our all time favorite ice cream flavor, and there's nothing better.

vanilla ice cream
1 1/2 cups half & half
2 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean

Whisk ingredients together in liquid quart measuring cup until sugar is dissolved, pour into ice cream maker and about 25 minutes later, tada!

Of course if you don't have an ice cream maker... wo is you. I have made ice cream in plastic bags with salt and ice (when I was teaching at an after school/summer program) but ice cream makers are much easier.

You can also pour it into a container or dish and freeze, stirring every 15 minutes or half hour until set. That will work.

Another tip - we like this better after it has been in the freezer for a little while. It's less like soft serve ice cream and a bit thicker like the ice cream you get in a pint. enjoy!

ugg boots

oh! One more awesome thing; the kind folks over at Whooga sheepskin boots have kindly made a coupon for all my lovely readers. If you type in the coupon code DELIGHTFUL into the box in your shopping cart, you get $30 to spend on their site, what a deal! There are no conditions on it, and they ship all over the world.

I know those who are local are thinking, 'hello, we're in the dead of summer!' but apparently sheepskin boots were originally made for summertime wear, at the beach! So basically no matter where on earth you are, sheepskin boots are in season. Plus it's never too late/early to go Christmas shopping. {hint hint}

If you do end up using the gift card, let me know what you got!
